The Cleveland Heights Tigers will be represented at the upcoming state swimming meet after a pair of boys relay teams qualified at the Division I district meet on Feb. 20.
On the girls side, Patricia Chen finished 32nd in the 50 free and 34th in the 100. She was the district only qualifier from the Heights girls team.
The boys team placed 11th overall, an improvement from 17th last year.
The medley relay (Aidan Peters, James Huff, Andrew Teets, Emmet Fluharty) finished 6th overall with a new record of 1:38.18. They qualified for the State Championship meet next week in Canton.
The 200 free relay (Aidan Peters, Andrew Teets, Emmet Fluharty, James Huff) finished in 5th place and improved their school record time at 1:29.52, also qualifying for the state meet.
Peters finished 6th in the 50 free with a personal-best time of 21.70. He placed 5th in the 100 free with a school-record 47.56, breaking a 30-year old record and getting his first individual record.
Huff placed 5th in the breaststroke and improved his school record at 58.87. His time was one spot away from qualifying for the state meet, and he missed it by just 1/100 of a second. Huff also placed 13th in the 100 butterfly.
Ari Inwood placed 26th with one of his best times at 1:04.91. Denzel McKenzie placed 22nd in the backstroke with his second-best time of 58.71.
