Tigers News · HEIGHTS SWIMMING – Tigers thrive at sectionals


Cleveland Heights made big waves at the Division I sectional meet Feb. 8 at SPIRE Institute.

The Tigers boys team placed 4th overall and the girls were 10th.

Sophomore Aidan Peters was the sectional champion in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
Sophomore James Huff was the champion in the 200 Individual Medley and also placed third in the 100 breaststroke.
The boys 200 freestyle relay of James Huff, Emmet Fluharty, Andrew Teets, and Aidan Peters (all sophomores) placed 2nd and the boys 200 medley relay of Aidan Peters, James Huff, Ari Inwood (junior), and Emmet Fluharty placed 3rd.
Inwood also placed 5th in the 100 breaststroke.
All qualified for districts in those events.
Elena Rinaldi (senior) placed 7th in the 100 butterfly and qualified for districts. Patricia Chen (sophomore) placed 9th in the 100 freestyle and 13th in the 200 freestyle and qualified for districts in both events.
Other notable finishes: Andrew Teets 10th in the 50 freestyle; Ben Gifford 11th in the 200 IM and 10th in the 100 breaststroke; Ari Inwood 10th in the 100 butterfly; Emmet Fluharty 7th in the 100 backstroke; Denzel McKenzie 8th in the 100 backstroke; Boys 400 freestyle relay of Denzel McKenzie, Andrew Teets, Ben Gifford and Ari Inwood placed 5th; Girls medley relay of Patricia Chen, Claire Hall, Elena Rinaldi and Abby Lauretig placed 7th; Elena Rinaldi 12th in the 50 freestyle; the girls 200 freestyle relay of Patricia Chen, Clare Dolan, Abby Lauretig and Elena Rinaldi placed 8th; the girls 400 freestyle relay of Clare Dolan, Helen Barr, Hannah Teets and Abby Lauretig placed 10th.
Coach Daniel Budin was very pleased with the effort from all swimmers.
“In addition to all of those top finishes, many other team members swam really well and achieved personal records,” Budin said.
